Shidoro is the name of one of the seven Japanese kilns that Lord Enshu discovered and nurtured, as his own chosen alternatives to the raku-ware favored by Sen no Rikyu, and the oribe-ware developed by Furuta Oribe, Lord Enshu's predecessor as ultimate arbiter in matters of cha-no-yu. The kiln itself is located in Shizuoka Prefecture. Its initial emergence dates back to the Muromachi period (1392~1573); at some point following Lord Enshu's demise it fell into disuse; its present revival and efflorescence are largely due to the efforts of the Grand Master's father and his natal brother.
