Flowers for a Tea-occasion

Season: December
Flowers for a Tea-occasion
Grand Master Fuden-an Sojitsu

Flowers used: winter chrysanthemum; Japanese allspice [Chimoanthus praecox (L.) Link]

Receptacle: antique bronze vase with dragon's-ear handles; (storage box inscribed by the Second Grand Master, Daizen Sokei)

Creator: Fuden-an Sojitsu

As this bronze vase has an august and very forceful presence, it is necessary to choose materials that match this. Having obtained some winter chrysanthemum of exquisite hue, my decision to try them out in this vessel resulted in the arrangement shown.

I used secateurs in order to free the basic form of the chrysanthemum of superfluous elements, and then set the allspice to sweep down to the left, balancing the chrysanthemum, and giving the arrangement a sense of dynamic flow. And I must confess that I found myself extremely pleased with the result.
